The 2nd year of the Czech-Slovak journey from the oldest pilgrimage site Skalka near Trenčín to Velehrad was presented by St. Mass in the Church of St. Andrej Svorad and Beňadik. With the blessing of the almost 90-kilometer route, more than 30 pilgrims set out on Tuesday, August 18, 2020.
The marked pedestrian route of the Cyril and Methodius route will lead the pilgrims to Velehrad, where they are scheduled to arrive on Saturday, August 22, 2020. The mentioned section was launched last year, as part of the first year of the Czech-Slovak journey. The activity earned positive feedback. "Among all marked sections of Cyril and Methodius roads in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, the route is the first to connect these countries and is the fruit of the work of the actors of the international network of the European Cultural Route of St. Cyril and Methodius. Members of the Regional Council of the Slovak Tourist Club Trenčín took care of marking the 25 km section in the Trenčín Region. The Skalka pilgrimage site is a popular place for pilgrims and tourists in general. Educational trails, marked routes or information boards are always an added value for the visitor, " said the executive director of the regional tourism organization Trenčín region, Eva Frývaldská.
Compared to last year, the itinerary has undergone a minor change. "We have shortened the sections in order to adapt the difficulty to less able-bodied participants or children. The current year is also supplemented by an accompanying vehicle, "said Petr Hirsch, a pilgrim and the main organizer of the journey. In addition to the markings on the route, the pilgrims are helped by new tourist maps, which are specially dedicated to the section Skalka - Velehrad. "The material entitled Let's Wander Without Borders, Skalka near Trenčín - Velehrad maps the international route of the Cyril and Methodius route, its difficulty or markings. The map is enriched with graphic and text blocks approaching the tourist attractions that line this route. In addition, we have completed the offer for tourists with simple diaries, which can be filled with stamps from the places visited. In the Trenčín region, it is the Pilgrimage site of Skalka and the city of Trenčín, “the director of the European Cultural Route of St. Cyril and Methodius, zspo, Martina Janochová.
The end of the 2nd year of the Czech-Slovak journey from Skalka to Velehrad will be the premiere of the documentary "On foot without borders", which was filmed over the course of one year on Cyril and Methodius routes. The documentary will be presented to the public on Saturday 22 August 2020 in the hall of Cardinal Tomáš Špidlík in Velehrad at 2 pm, as well as on the Czech television station Noe, 27 September 2020. This will culminate in annual cross-border cooperation to cultural roots ”co-financed by the Small Projects Fund of the Interreg VA SK-CZ program.
