A piece of Oriental orientation
The majestic Nutrition Synagogue was built in the northern corner of the city square in Trenčín, the beginning of the 20th century. The historicist, yet contemporary, style with the Byzantine Amar-Oriental elements adds to the construction of the most beautiful and most interesting of its kind in Slovakia - despite its reinforced concrete skeleton. Synagogue was used for non-logical purposes in the Second World War. The Holy Trinity Jewish community during the Second World War devastated and seriously damaged members of the local Nazi organization. The inventory was stolen. The interior kept the original blue dome with a rich chandelier and stained-glass windows with ornamental and plant motifs. They rebuilt the little chapel at the back of the building in 1990.
Thanks to the redevelopment, the whole building, which has experienced glory and humiliation, has been given the extraordinary status and now serves the public as a city art center and exhibition hall. Opposite the synagogue stands a long-lived underground building, where a public Jewish school was housed in 1868.
