A TRIBUTE TO MAGNA VIA
The 16th century marks the beginning of the great royal postal road "Via Magna". The road served the entire Austrian monarchy as a secure communications route and helped the kingdom to increase its economic prosperity. It was built upon the order of the Emperor Ferdinand I during the occupation of southern territories by Turkish troops. Via Magna was one of the longest postal and transport connections. It was 1,500 km long, had 56 postal stations and led through Slovakia (about 520 km), Austria, Ukraine, Hungary and Romania.
In order to promote and protect Slovak cultural heritage and natural beauties the association Via Magna decided to build this wooden observation tower on Malý Jelenec.
