The eastern part consists of Kysucké Beskydy, Kysucká vrchovina and Orava Beskydy. The Protected Landscape Area belongs to 6 districts (Čadca, Žilina, Dolný Kubín, Bytča, Považská Bystrica, Púchov) and 2 districts (Žilinský, Trenčiansky). More than half of the territory covers forests. In spite of the geological monotony of the flysch zone (low resistant flysch sediments - rhythmically alternating positions of sandstones, clay and clay shingles), the landscape is influenced by Wallachian colonization and kopanic settlement, mosaic-like, parks with alternating forests, meadows, fields and settlements with preserved folk architecture.
The original mixed forests are preserved in the top positions. The site has a rich network of streams, a multitude of strands, transitional peat bogs, and meadows with protected and endangered plant species such as Rhododendron, Rhododendron, Orchid orchid, orchid, orchid, orchid. 205 species of vertebrates have been identified so far. It represents the western border of the expansion of all the great beasts of Slovakia - the wolf, the bear, the lynx. There are also otters, forest creeks, glacial relics of drops, sparrows, three-toothed thorns, mountain mice. In many places, the Carpathian endemic - the Carpathian Salt - survives.
Particular natural phenomena of the maple part of the territory are stone balls (mysterious natural creations of sandstone and gravel, the origin of which is not yet elucidated). The largest of them has a diameter of about 260 cm. Two sites with the appearance of stone gouls were declared protected in the category of nature reserve (PR Klokočovské skaly) and natural monument (PP Megonky). Another natural phenomenon is the natural monument of the Kornaen oil springs. This is a unique natural oil spill in Slovakia accompanied by an irregular natural gas extraction - methane.
