Light in the dark - Dominik Monček's exhibition

A magical combination of light and metal in the exhibition with a strong reference to today's times.

Academic sculptor Dominik Monček, originally from the Trenčín region, presents his sculptural work from the last three years in the premises of the Miloš Alexander Bazovský Gallery. His works refer to the pains of the time we live in - full of contradictions and uncertainty.

Through the combination of matte and shiny metal particles, from which Dominik Monček creates works by welding and grinding them, he conveys messages and philosophical reflections in them. An essential element in the entire exhibition is the light penetrating through the sculptures exhibited in the underground spaces of the gallery and the "black room" of the gallery. This connection and interplay of light and dark represents the search for a way out through subjective references and moral messages. At the same time, with its magical atmosphere, the exhibition offers a unique experience and is accessible from 19.10.2023 until 2.12.2023.

Dominik Monček comes from Pruský, a village near Ilava. He studied monumental sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He orients his work in two directions. Figural objects of recent years with spiritual-Christian or human universal symbolism are supplemented with non-figurative objects of an abstract-geometric nature. In 2023, he was awarded the prestigious FRA ANGELICO prize.
