During the penultimate week of August, the first Czech-Slovak journey will take place between two important pilgrimage sites, namely Skalka nad Váhom on the Slovak side and Velehrad near our Czech neighbors. Symbolically, the first marked Cyril and Methodius route between the Czech Republic and Slovakia will also be open.
For several years now, the Cyril and Methodius route has connected important places and institutions which, even after more than 1,100 years, still bear the legacy of Cyril, Methodius and their followers. It offers Europeans and other interested parties a diverse range of cultural and educational tourism throughout the year, with the activities being coordinated by the association of partners of the Cyril and Methodius Route. The first marked route carrying the legacy of two Thessalonian brothers between the Czech Republic and Slovakia leads from Skalka nad Váhom, which is the oldest pilgrimage site in Slovakia at all, to Velehrad in the Zlín Region.
The beginning of the journey together with the symbolic opening of the mentioned section of the route is planned for Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with the beginning at 8.00 ha and the start in the premises of the former monastery in Veľká Skalka. The pilgrimage with a total length of less than 90 kilometers will lead from the aforementioned Skalka nad Váhom, through Žítková, Starý Hrozenkov, the spa town of Luhačovice, Uherský Brod and Velehrad.
The event was prepared by the regional tourism organization Trenčín region in cooperation with the association European Cultural Route of St. Cyril and Methodius in Zlín.
