With nearly 30,000 votes, the pear-pear merit bronze in international competition for the most exciting tree.
A vote on the tree with the most exciting life story in the European Tree of 2016 competition took place in February this year. About 230,000 people were voted in the poll, who chose among the most interesting woods from 15 European countries. The Slovak Republic in the competition represented the pear tree from Bošáček - Zabudišová, whose occurrence was only found in this region. Up to almost 30,000 Slovaks have found time to support this 200-year-old tree from the Trenčín region. With a total of 29,111 votes in the international competition, the end-of-life boss took 3rd place.
According to the organizers, the goal of the European Tree of the Year is not to find the most beautiful, oldest or largest tree, but a tree with an interesting story related to people, thus pointing to old trees as an important part of natural and cultural wealth.
The European Tree of the Year competition was created in 2011, following the popular Tree of the Year survey, which has been organized in the Czech Republic for several years by the Partnership Foundation. The ceremonial evaluation of this year's Environmental Partnership Association was held on 20 April 2016 in Brussels. The winner of the tree was the oldest tree in Bátaszek from Hungary with a vote of 72,653, and the second most interesting tree selected the thousand-year-old Liptov from the Czech Republic, which approached 43,451 voters.
