Považskobystrický District has been formed in the recent past mainly by the engineering industry. Still, its greatest attraction today is nature. Potulky after him so pleased with the first row of tourists, who can discover many magic strokes here. Here, fans of history, castles, and mansions will also be there.
The most northerly district of the Trenčín Region lies in the middle stream of Váh, surrounded by the Souľovské Hills and Javorníky. It merges with the districts of Púchov and Ilava, the Žilinský kraj and the Czech Republic. Its center is a Podmanin hill that hides many natural beauties.
There are 27 villages and one city in Považská Bystrica with a square area of 463 square kilometers. Overall, 62,810 people lived at the end of last year.
The history of the district town, as well as the whole region, is connected with the history of the Považský Castle, which dates back to the 13th century in the town of Považské Podhradie. His silhouette completes the scenery of Upper Považia, which reminds many of the crumpled paper. The district is also typical of mountainous conditions, creating the ideal conditions for mountain farming.
The region's biggest attractions, as well as the whole of Slovakia, include Manínska tiesňava. Its massive limestone rocks have different shapes, reminiscent of towers, roofs or needles. They form a rocky city with the narrowest rock canyon in Slovakia and many interesting species of plants and animals. A little further is the Kostolecká tiesňava, dominated by a large rock overhand called Strecha Slovenska. The existing limestone walls belong together with the terrains in the nearby Manínská Tiesňava and at Bosman to the most extensive training rocks in Slovakia. They offer ideal possibilities for practicing climbing techniques in the length of 20 to 200 meters.
The heart of the region is the town of Považská Bystrica, which is still connected with the Považské strojárne plant and the production of motorcycles. The old city completely changed the reconstruction in the 70s and 80s of the last century. New housing estates were built, various hotel and restaurant facilities were added. Among the monuments that have been preserved today are the castle of Burg under Považský Castle and the Renaissance manor house in the town of Orlová.
Those interested in history should not omit the formerly renaissance manor in Jasenice, the manor house in Dolni Lieskov, the loggie bell in Briestenn, or the memorial room of the writer Petr Jilemnický in Kostol.
