Days of European cultural heritage in the Upper Nitrian Museum

The Days of European Cultural Heritage (DEKD) at the Upper Nitrian Museum in Prievidza are an event that has a traditional and irreplaceable place in the program of the museum.

An exceptional pan-European event has been bringing together institutions responsible for the protection and preservation of the historical and natural uniqueness of individual states and regions of the European continent every September for three decades. The public's attention throughout the month is attracted by a specialized program offering, whose current motto is "Heritage Live!" - "Living heritage". This year, the Hornonitrian Museum in Prievidza will join the celebrations at the very end of the month - on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 September 2023 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The two-day marathon of combined activities will be marked by the newly opened exhibition From the prehistoric seas of upper Ponitria , presenting fossils of vertebrates and invertebrates from various geological periods in a playful, educational and creative form. Other accompanying events will include a look into the mysterious conservatory kitchen, otherwise inaccessible to the public all year round, "where things happen", as well as the upcoming traveling exhibition People and Treasures of Lusatian Culture about northwestern Slovakia at the turn of the Bronze and Iron Ages. And there will also be the official opening of the second year of the art competition about a May night spent in the museum.
