In less than two months, on Thursday, November 10, 2022, the seventeenth edition of the HoryZonty Adventure Film Festival will open its doors in Trenčín. Organizers hope that after two years marked by anti-pandemic measures, visitors will finally be able to enjoy the festival without restrictions.
Two years of searching for a new way to the viewer
The last two years represented a great challenge for the organizers and the search for new ways to make the festival program available to the audience. Therefore, HoryZonty moved into the online space in 2020, and last year they offered a combination of online projection and screening in a cinema hall. "This year, we would like to return to the classic form of the festival," says its director Mária Dutková, according to whom the atmosphere and personal meetings are non-transferable and can hardly be conveyed through a screen or monitor. The organizers believe that the 17th edition, which will be held on November 10-12, 2022 at the House of the Army, will be unrestricted and that as many people as possible will be able to take away the experience of the festival.
The film competition is turning into an international one
The novelty of the festival, which will be felt mainly by filmmakers, is that the film competition is changing from a competition of Czech and Slovak non-professional films to an international competition. For the first time, film submissions took place through the FilmFreeway platform, where filmmakers from all over the world had the opportunity to submit their films. The selection of films for the program is almost finished, and viewers can look forward to approximately 30 films. Financial prizes will be awarded to the best festival film and the best Slovak film, material prizes will be awarded to award-winning creators for the best outdoor film and the best eco film with a low carbon footprint. Non-professional filmmakers will have the opportunity to win the Award for a budding filmmaker, and there will also be an audience award.
Magical heights and depths
The organizers are also preparing performances by interesting guests, the program will include presentations and short discussions with the creators or protagonists of the films. Among others, the mountaineer Igor Koller, who celebrated his 70th birthday this year, has promised his participation. "An exceptionally interesting guest, whose participation we have been waiting for several years, will be the Czech freediver, that is, one-breath diver, Alena Konečná. So we will look not only at the summits of the highest mountains, but also at the depths of the seas and oceans, which are even more inaccessible to many of us than mountain peaks," explains the festival organizer.
Photo competition with action theme "To the fullest"
The program will also include workshops, an author's photo exhibition and the traditional exhibition of the best photos sent to the competition, this time with the theme "To the fullest". The deadline for sending photos is October 23, until then you can send photos from outdoor sports, trips, or visits to different countries. This year, the festival will also offer visitors the opportunity to experience interesting activities. Adults and children alike can look forward to cross-country races, a porter competition on the Parish steps, and the Tour de HoryZonty pump track race and other interesting attractions will not be missing in Park MR Štefánik.
